Sebastian Vettel has received backing from some of his former team bosses to succeed in a Formula 1 managerial role in the future.
Vettel opted to retire from F1 at the end of the 2022 campaign, bringing an end to a glory-filled career.
The German driver picked up four F1 titles, 53 race wins, 57 pole positions and 122 podiums during his 15 years in the category.
He has not outlined definitively what he plans to do post-retirement, however he is set to get behind the wheel at the Race of Champions later this month.
But should he opt to return to a management position in F1 in the future, he has received backing from Christian Horner, who led the Red Bull team during Vettel’s run of title success in the early 2010s.
“He’s a great people person,” Horner said. “He understands the value of people and the contribution that they make to success.
“And I think he’s turned into somewhat of a driver counsellor in the last couple of years as well. So, it really depends what he wishes to apply himself to.
“He’s one of those guys that’s annoyingly good at anything he chooses to do. So I’m sure if he chose that path he would be very good at it.”
In the final year of his F1 career with Aston Martin, Vettel worked under Mike Krack, who was also part of the BMW Sauber set-up with whom Vettel made his F1 debut.
Although Krack agrees that Vettel would make a strong manager, he has doubts over the likelihood of him taking on the role.
“I don’t know if he wants to do that,” Krack said. “But I think he has the personality and all the skill… [that] I think the ones that are needed to do that.
“So I think he could be a good one, yeah.”
