Toyota completed a 1-2-3 clean sweep of the W2RC podium at the end of the Rally du Maroc which ended in Merzouga yesterday.
The event was won by the privateer Toyota Hilux T1+ of Yazeed Al Rajhi and co-driver Timo Gottschalk followed by their teammates Denis Krotov and Konstantin Zhiltsov in another Overdrive-run Toyota Hilux. Nani Roma and Alex Haro ended third in their M-Sport-Ford Ranger T1+
The significance of the fifth round of the W2RC is that it is the final chance to test any developments ahead of the 2024 Dakar Rally in race conditions similar to those found in Saudi Arabia.
Al-Attiyah dropped an hour 20 minutes in stage four, dropping him out of contention for a seventh Moroccan victory.
Toyota Gazoo Racing won all three W2RC titles: drivers, co-drivers and Manufacturers.
Al-Attiyah said: “To me, winning a second W2RC title is an amazing feeling. It all started when we won the Dakar Rally back in January, but standing here now as a double W2RC champion, I cannot be happier. I would like to thank TOYOTA GAZOO Racing and the entire team who helped to build and maintain our GR DKR Hilux T1+ for their hard work and strong support.”
